When she entered the house through the back door and into the kitchen, Louise was shocked and gasped at what she saw. Billy was sitting on the floor holding her black iron skillet with his back against the wall. Next to him she saw Ralph sprawled out on the kitchen floor unconscious and motionless. She looked at Billy and asked, "Is he...?" Shaking his head slightly, he answered in a low raspy voice, "No, he's still alive."

Being confident that at this hour the on-coming vehicle was most likely someone in pursuit of the car that had apparently eluded the police officers they had just left, Tuttle used his headlights, turning them off and on in a sequence of long and short flashes. In Morse code he was flashing the letters, F, B, I.

The passenger in the back seat of Tuttle's car, Nadean Wycliffe was more than a little curious and decided to take advantage of how quiet it was as their car sped along at speeds of which Nadean was not at all familiar or very comfortable. "So... tell me something y'all. Who are you again? And exactly where are we going?" Smith shook his head and grumbled under his breath to Tuttle, "It was a huge mistake to bring her along."

Following protocol, Ensign Young telephoned the O.I.C (Officer In Charge) at Fort Moultrie, Army Captain Roy Winters. Then he placed a call to the Charleston City and County Sheriff's departments. Captain Winters dispatched PT boat - PT-38. Then he alerted the OIC at the Charleston Navy Base, Ensign John Miller. Charleston City dispatch, Mrs. Shelly Green sent the message out about a flare being spotted south of Folly Beach and for all patrols to be on high alert. Charleston County dispatch, Miss Wanda Jones did the same as well as dispatching two patrol cars to the vicinity of Kiawah and Seabrook Islands.

Not knowing who Louise Ford was, Chlodwig, alias Billy Cook mistook her as one of the girls he had rendered out-of-commission only moments earlier. He angrily grabbed a hold of her and said, "You're mine now, and you're dead."

"Do you think you'll be able to walk if we assist you?" Cherry asked. He gave a weak reply. "Yes, I think so." Then they each wrapped one of his arms around their neck and shoulders and began slowly walking him away from the water's edge.

Both Cherry and Robyn stopped dead in their tracks and with looks of incredulity and shock, they were now staring at the man that had fallen to his knees. Seeing now that he had their attention, Chlodwig seized the opportunity, and in a most melodramatic manner he let out a mournful groan and fell face down in the wet sand.

The uncertainty in Robyn's voice was quite evident as she stated, "I don't think that's a Nazi spy. I mean... he certainly doesn't sound like one."

As they brought their horses to a halt neither Cherry nor Robyn said a word. They just listened. Finally, after a good 10 minutes or so, Cherry said, "I don't hear anything now, but the sound of the surf."

"Neither do I", Robyn replied. "I don't have a good feeling about any of this Cherry."

"Yeah, I know what you mean...
