Morris Island Lighthouse Lighting And COA Eco Tour

Saturday night October 1, 2016, at 7:30pm, the Morris Island Lighthouse once again pierced the darkness and illuminated the north end of folly beach and surrounding areas. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1962 and has remained dark since. This ceremonial lighting was the first time the Morris Island Lighthouse beacon has been lit since that time. Realizing the historic significance of this lighting, I began making plans to attend as soon as I heard about it. My first plan was to walk down the old Coast Guard Road at the end of north Folly Beach and view the lighting from the beach there. Sunday was Father's Day. And my family is so great; they decided a day wasn't enough. Starting on Friday and ending Sunday, we celebrated Father's weekend. The weekend started with a Morris Island shelling expedition and Charleston Harbor tour Friday; kayaking down the Ashley River Saturday and kayaking in Shem Creek with the dolphins Sunday.

Sea Turtle Rescue / Release at Isle of Palms County Park

This past Wednesday morning, 10:00 AM at the Isle of Palms Charleston County Park, the South Carolina Aquarium along with the Sea turtle rescue team released three Sea Turtles back into the wild after they had been successfully rescued and rehabilitated: a Loggerhead; a Kemp's Ridley; and a Green.
