The Soldiers Came Home To A New America
And Made Music That Inspired The Nation.
Show Starts: 7:30 PM | Doors Open: 6:30 PM

From three-time Tony® winner and Hamilton choreographer, Andy Blankenbuehler, comes a poignant and inspiring new American musical that explodes with infectious music and high-octane, heart-stopping dancing.

It’s 1945. As America’s soldiers come home to ticker-tape parades and overjoyed families, Private First Class Donny Novitski, singer and songwriter, struggles to rebuild the life he left behind.

When NBC announces a national competition to find the nation’s next great musical superstars, Donny sees a lifeline for himself and some fellow veterans that gives them the purpose they so desperately need. Together, they form a band unlike any the nation has ever seen. Along the way, they discover the power of music to face the impossible, find their voice, and finally feel like they have a place to call home.

Presents: I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change
The 2018 Reboot of 2nd Longest Running Off-Broadway Smash Hit

The second longest running off-Broadway revue in history has been revised for the 21st century! This celebration of the mating game takes on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum known as 'the relationship’ from the journey of dating and waiting to love and marriage and then reveals the agonies and triumphs of in-laws and newborns, trips in the family car and pick-up techniques of the geriatric set. This hilarious revue pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on their face at the portal of romance, to those who have dared to ask, 'Say, what are you doing Saturday night?' The 2018 version features two new songs, revised lyrics and dialogue throughout the show to reflect dating in modern times.

CONRAD TAO PLAYS BRAHMS

Friday Feb 7, 2020
Category/Venue: The Gaillard Center

Two Shows: Friday Feb 07, 7:30 PM and Saturday Feb 08, 7:30 PM

The Charleston Symphony Orchestra Presents:
CONRAD TAO PLAYS BRAHMS
Doors Open at 6:30 PM for both shows.

Conrad Tao returns to Charleston after an astounding performance with the CSO in 2018. The former child prodigy is among the greatest living piano players in the world and has begun to establish himself as a respected composer. Last year, the New York Philharmonic commissioned and opened its season with Tao’s original composition, Everything Must Go. The performance was lauded by The New York Times as “One of the best classical music performances of 2018.” And if that’s not enough, Tao has managed to accomplish all of this by the tender age of 24.

Tao returns to play Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1, written when the composer was about Tao’s age. Brahms drafted this concerto during a period of great turmoil in his life, attempting it first as a symphony then as a sonata for two pianos before finally settling on a concerto. At the time, Brahms’ mentor, Robert Schumann, had recently been institutionalized after throwing himself into the Rhine River. Brahms acted as a source of support for his friend’s distraught wife, Clara Schumann. Some say a romance may have bloomed between Clara and Johannes, although we’ll never know for sure. One thing we do know for sure: we cannot wait to hear Conrad Tao play Brahms’ dynamic and introspective piano concerto next year.
