John Prine at The North Charleston Performing Arts Center

Category / Venue: North Charleston Coliseum
Date and Time: 15 Sep 2017 8:00 PM

Two time Grammy-winner, singer-songwriter, John Prine, is among the English language’s premier phrase-turners. Forty-five years into a remarkable career that has drawn effusive praise from Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Bonnie Raitt, Roger Waters, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and others who would know, Prine is a smiling, shuffling force for good. He is a Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame member whose classic debut album, simply titled John Prine, is recognized as part of the Recording Academy’s Grammy Hall of Fame. Prine’s songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Tom T. Hall, the Everly Brothers, Carly Simon, Bette Midler, Norah Jones, George Strait, Miranda Lambert, and many others. But his genius isn’t found in his resume, it’s found in the brilliance of lyrics from his large catalog of songs.

Maria Bamford at The Charleston Music Hall

Maria started her performing arts career in Duluth, Minnesota at the age of 11 where she starred in the Chester Park Elementary production of How the West Was REALLY Won! A short number of decades later and look at her now! Rolling Stone named her one of their 50 Funniest People, and she’s the winner of the 2014 American Comedy Award for Best Club Comic!

Maria recurred as Debris Bardeaux on Netflix’s Arrested Development reboot, for which she was praised as “fantastic” (Entertainment Weekly) a “standout” (TIME) and “perhaps one of the high points of the entire new season” (Black Book Magazine). Deer Tick and Comedian Chris Crofton at The Charleston Music Hall

Category / Venue: Charleston Music Hall
Date and Time: 23 Sep 2017 9:00 PM

At each show, they will play two sets; an “acoustic” set and an electric set. There will be an intermission and a comedian will open the shows.

John McCauley and Deer Tick have long walked a tightwire between total despair and fractured resilience, but Negativity represents a heroic leap forward on virtually all fronts for the Providence, Rhode Island-based band. Recorded earlier this year in Portland, Oregon with legendary producer/musician Steve Berlin (The Blasters, Los Lobos, and last year’s McCauley side project, Diamond Rugs), the album – Deer Tick‘s fifth full-length studio release, and follow-up to 2011’s acclaimed Divine Providence – is McCauley’s most personal work thus far as well as the band’s most undeniable and universal, their famously freewheeling musical approach refined here into a gloriously cohesive whole.

The Chris Robinson Brotherhood at The Charleston Music Hall

Category / Venue: Charleston Music Hall
Date and Time: 28 Sep 2017 8:00 PM

When the Chris Robinson Brotherhood headed into the studio to begin recording their new album, Anyway You Love, We Know How You Feel, no one knew just what to expect. These would be the band’s first recordings with new drummer Tony Leone (Ollabelle, Levon Helm), their first since the departure of founding bassist Mark “Muddy” Dutton, and their first time producing themselves. But as anybody who’s been following the CRB can attest, this is a band that thrives on the unexpected. If you need proof, just go back to 2012, when they first emerged on the national stage by releasing not one, but two acclaimed full-length albums within a few months of each other. Critics hailed their sprawling debut, Big Moon Ritual, as a revelation, with Uncut calling it a “tenderly-executed piece of work…[that’s] both earthy and transcendent”.

Higher Ground: The Music of Stevie Wonder Quiana Parler, Charlton Singleton, and Friends at The Charleston Music Hall

Category / Venue: Charleston Music Hall
Date and Time: 29 Sep 2017 8:00 PM

Charlton Singleton and Quiana Parler and Friends continue their immensely popular series of tribute concerts. First it was Prince, then Michael Jackson, and now everyones idol...Stevie Wonder. From Sir Duke and Isn't She Lovely to Overjoyed and You Are the Sunshine of My Life, HIGHER GROUND: THE MUSIC OF STEVIE WONDER has the makings of yet another sold out gem at the historic Charleston Music Hall.

Quiana Parler, formerly a principal singer in the Broadway-style show, Serenade, at the Charleston Music Hall. Parler leads her own group, Quiana Parler and Friends, and she works regularly on a national level with the likes of Clay Aiken, Keith Sweat and Kelly Clarkson. After years on the road, Quiana has returned home to Charleston, SC and assembled an incredible group of players and singers chosen from the top tier of South Carolina's musical elite.

Charlton has emerged in the last several years as the face of jazz performance in the Lowcountry. After long stints in various small ensembles playing many styles of popular music, he became conductor and artistic director of the Charleston Jazz Orchestra, a 20-piece aggregation at the vanguard of jazz in South Carolina today that arose from the prototypical Charlton Singleton Orchestra in March of 2008.
